Book Tour and Giveaway!

I'm super excited to tell you about this new book, Sewing for Boys. It's written by Shelly Figueroa (Patterns by Figgy's) and Karen LePage (One Girl Circus)

I got to meet Shelly from Patterns by Figgy's at Quilt Market back in May. I loved their patterns and their booth was super cute. She told me about this new book coming out and I got super excited about it. Heaven knows the market for girl patterns is heavily saturated. But it's hard to find great books and patterns that are strictly for boys.

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy to review - and I get to give away a copy to one of you! August was really hot and busy and I hardly sewed at all. I had grand plans for September. I thought, hey the kids will be in school and it will cool down and I'll find all sorts of time and motivation. Ha! Not so much. It turns out that having 2/3 of my kids in school for just 3 hours/day amounts to about ONE hour/day to do something (if I'm lucky and Simon naps)!

Are you following me?
Please tell me I'm not the only one who is still trying to get my life back in order after summertime?!

There are 24 great patterns in this book - shirts, pants, pajamas, hats, play things, etc. It's awesome! Shelly and Karen have done a great job with it.

I have grand plans to make some clothes for Simon. Maybe some matching pants for Max if he'll agree to it (he's at that age, ya know).

Please forgive my awful pictures ... I have a lame camera and I never do anything during the day when children are awake. You understand, right?

If you'd like to win your own copy of this great book.... please leave a comment on this post. Winner will be announced on Monday, Sept 19th.
And if you're not following my blog already, I'd love it if you would. But you don't have to. :)

Check out all the other great bloggers who are writing about this book (full list is in my last post).
Thanks to Patterns by Figgy's and Wiley Craft for sponsoring this giveaway!

Ruby's quilt (finished) and Go! Baby Giveaway!

I got Ruby's crazy quilt finished! I put pink dot minky on the back and did straight line quilting. I used some striped fabric from my stash for the binding (yay for stash-busting!). I hand stitched the binding on our way to Idaho. It was a 4-hour drive and I worked on it most of the way - wow!

I like the way the circles frayed after it was washed/dried.

the quilting looks cool on the back.

Goofy Ruby agreed (somewhat) to take a pic with her quilt.
My favorite name suggestions were Rubylicious and Ruby Cubes.
I suggested both of them to Ruby and, well, let's just say she's been a moody and opinionated 4-yr-old lately. She said "it doesn't need a name!" She's just been calling it "quilty." Ok, fine ...
I guess she should have a say in it. But I'll call it what I want here on the blog!

Then Max grabbed his quilt and wanted in on the photo action too. They were giggling so hard as I tried to get them to "smile normal!" Ha! Goofballs.

And here's the giveaway I promised.

You can win your own Go! Baby Fabric Cutter + 3 dies of your choice + cutting mat!

Yards and Yards (and a giveaway!)

(this giveaway is now closed -- thanks for playing!)

I recently came across a great blog and etsy shop:

Anna is the brains behind this operation and has a lot of great tutorials and projects on her blog. She has also started selling her patterns in her etsy shop. I got the All Squared Up quilt pattern and also the Totebag pattern. I am dying to use them -- they are great patterns. I love it when someone else does all the measurements and math! (too much math involved in sewing and quilting - wouldn't you agree?!)

She recently posted a tutorial for an adjustable apron, which I love.
Check it out HERE.

Now for the giveaway ... you can enter to win a Yards and Yards PDF pattern of your choice! And I'm also tossing in a $10 SewSara gift card to use in my etsy shop!

You can enter up to five times. Leave a separate comment for each, or it won't count. Thanks!

1- Leave a comment here telling me what pattern you'd choose from Anna's shop.
2- Follow Yards and Yards blog
3-  Follow my blog (SewSara)
4-  Like Yards and Yards on Facebook
5- Like SewSara on Facebook

good luck! we'll announce the winner next Monday, June 27th!

p.s. I posted about Max's birthday, too. What a crazy/fun weekend!

Midsummer Blog Party

Maybe a little giveaway will cheer me up (remember how Simon is growing too fast?).

I saw this idea over at Joy's Hope (one of my favorite blogs) so I thought I'd join in the party.

I'm giving away this darling Summer Song minky blanket.
Would you love this for your little one?
Or for a perfect baby gift?

post edit:
OR if you have a baby boy in mind ... you can choose this cute monster minky blanket!

Leave a comment on this post if you'd like to win one of these blankets! Tell me - what's your favorite summertime treat?

You can even have a second entry if you comment with your favorite salad recipe. I love salads in the summertime, don't you?

Winner announced on July 30th!
