Minky Rag Squares -- quilt TUTORIAL

Here we go....

^ I ended up eliminating the navy fabric pictured above.

edited to add details for fabric:
If you need to purchase fabric, I'd get about on yard for top and bottom.
Just make sure you caculate enough for 36 squares.

You could get 1/6th yard of 6 fabrics
or 1/3 yard of 3 different fabrics, for example.

And for the minky -- one yard total ... however you like to do it, one yard of a single color
or 1/2 yard of two different colors.

Hope that helps!

*side note - Minky is a little stretchy and it's ok if you
need to pull the edges a little to line up well with the
top cotton square. I use regular quilting cotton and/or
flannel for the top pieces.

stand back and admire your work....
see, you don't even notice that some of the corners
don't perfectly lign up, right?

(don't look too closely! :) )

The finished size on these ends up approx. 34"x34".

Any size squares will work ... you can easily make them larger or smaller (though I wouldn't suggest smaller than 5" squares, just for sanity/time!

See other rag quilts I've made here here  and here. ... and here.
And my similar tutorial for a strip quilt.

* pretty please.... do not use pictures without linking to my blog and/or this tutorial, ok? Feel free to link up from your blog and please, by all means, let me know if you try this out! I'd be tickled to hear from you.
Have fun!

Plugging Along

Well I'm a week behind in the Old Red Barn Quilt Co. Quilt Along (say that five times in a row!), but I'm still working on it. I'm working on sewing all the blocks together tonight so hopefully I'll be ready for week 5 on Monday. But I still need to decide (or find) what I'll use for the backing of this quilt. My friend was over tonight and said, "You're keeping this one, right?" and I said YES! It's funny how quickly I move if the quilt is for someone else but if I know it's for me, too many other things seem to jump in my way.

Anyone else doing the quilt-along?
Look at the flickr group to see all the fun quilts people are working on!
